Hearts & Hands
Hearts & Hands
Though this design is available as a made-to-order quilt, it will be highly customised.
A family tree showcased by handprints. Each family member traces their hand (including the base of their palm) and this 'handprint' is turned into a fabric silhouette of their hand.
We can also include hearts to represent individual family members who have passed away. Each contains a smaller heart within.
Each handprint and heart is contained within its own square, separated by thin borders, creating a grid. The grid pictured is 6 x 5 (30 squares total).
All surrounded in several borders of a patterned fabric of your choice.
The amount of hands that can fit on the quilt depends on the:
- Quilt size
- Number of individual family members to be represented
- Grid square size (minimum is 20 cm squared when incorporating adult hands).
Please take these factors into consideration when selecting your quilt size.
To represent unity, we recommend using various shades of 1 colour (e.g. blue) for the hearts and hands. The smaller hearts are a different colour.
If you want yellow hands, we recommend that the grid squares not be white/cream - they will not stand out enough.
We made the grid borders darker shades of the same colour as the hands (so that the lines would be less harsh). You can choose a different colour if you wish.
Appliqué on a patchwork base.
An all-over leaf or swirl design using a variegated (multi-toned) cotton thread in a suitable colour to your colour scheme.
Custom (2.4 m x 2.4 m).
Made with 100% cotton fabrics and wadding.
Washing machine- and dryer-friendly.
Please allow approximately 4 - 6 weeks to create. The handprints take time for you to collect and are time-consuming to sew.
Fabrics may vary from those displayed in images due to availability.
You will need to choose a symbol/motif (e.g. butterflies) for your patterned fabric for the outermost borders.
